Mijas Pueblo. Frankly a must if you can tear yourself away from the beach. It sits 430 metres above the coast in a mountainside and is littered with narrow streets, some crowded with craft shops and plenty of restaurants and cafés. There are magnificent views of the coast from the lovely park built against the old town walls. Apart from the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Pena off the plaza by the town hall you can also exercise your legs and walk to the shrine Calvario built in 1710 which sits perched above the town and is illuminated at night. If you enjoy walking the tourist office organises free walking tours (please check with the tourist office for the current day) ranging in difficulty including some taking you into the Sierra de Mijas. The town now also has a small chocolate factory where you can see them making it.
